Dentists and Sleep Apnea
In this short video, Dr. Paul Rodeghero, DDS explains the role of the dentist in screening patients affected by Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
The question is: Can a dentist tell if you have sleep apnea?
A dentist is a great screening person. They see their patients in their chairs all the time. They can check the airway, how the person breathes, their dry mouth, and have lots of symptoms for sleep apnea.
In the State of Florida, a dentist may not diagnose sleep apnea. He can gather all the information and then he submits it to an M.D., a specialist physician. They will diagnose the sleep apnea.
Then, the dentist is an appropriate person to treat it with dental appliances.
